Guns N’ Roses guitarist Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal has joined forces with Tony Harnell former TNT frontman and his unique NY based acoustic/electric band. Since leaving TNT in 2006 Harnell has continued recording both hard rock, metal and acoustic rock albums and has been performing his entertaining acoustic set to sold out crowds around the New York City circuit with his current line up which features guitarist Jason Hagen, Amy Harnell (vocals/percussion) and newest member Cassandra Sotos (TSO, Mark Wood), on 7-string electric violin.
The two met 20 years earlier when Tony was forming a new band after TNT took a break in 1992, and in Jan 2012 Ron and Tony were reunited at the NAMM convention in L.A. where the two started discussing the possibility of working together.

After Ron attended one of Tony’s recent performances in August, which Thal proclaimed was “the best acoustic show he had ever seen”, Tony, being a fan of Ron’s other-worldly and original fretwork asked if he’d like to join him on the project and contribute to his EP which was already underway. Harnell states, “in addition to Ron’s superhuman and beautiful guitar playing, he also happens to have a great voice and writes amazing songs which will greatly add to this project both live and in the studio. Thal has also been a longtime fan of Harnell's songwriting and vocal artistry, so the new coalition seems more than natural.
The group is also announcing the launch of a Pledge Music campaign, which allows the fans to contribute to and watch the making of the EP. A portion of the proceeds from the campaign will go to Breast Cancer Research. With the new lineup and EP on the way, the group will tour nationally and internationally as a foursome featuring Harnell, Thal, Harnell (Amy) and Sotos under the name, "Tony Harnell and the Wildflowers featuring Bumblefoot." Hagen will remain an integral part of songwriting and recording and will be appearing with the group for local performances. Harnell also states, “Ron’s live appearances with this project will be subject to his schedule with GNR but he’ll be with us for the live shows whenever possible.”

The project already has shows booked in Vegas and Europe as well as the prestigious, soon to be re-opened Cutting Room in NYC which has relocated and is being touted as one of the coolest new venues in the city. Harnell and Thal have also been discussing other plans for a full electric band and have already started to reach out to some well-known musicians to join them.“That’ll manifest after the acoustic EP which is due out in early 2013.”

Guns N' Roses rocker charms children at Dubai autism centre

Guns N' Roses rocker charms children at Dubai autism centre

DUBAI // Children at the city's autism centre were delighted today when Guns N' Roses lead guitarist Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal treated them to an exclusive live performance.

The youngsters crowded onto the staircase at the Dubai Autism Centre to watch him appear with Nikhil Uzgare, lead singer of the Dubai band Point of View. One little boy rested his head on Uzgare's shoulder as he sang Set Me Free, a track from his band's debut album Revolutionize the Revolutionary. Thal then played the Pink Panther theme on acoustic guitar.

The American musician, who in true rock and roll style arrived 40 minutes late, looked every inch the wild guitar hero in his patched-up jeans and black leather jacket. But he was kindness itself with the children and smiled as one of them played with his long beard, which was wrapped tightly in chains.

He said afterwards that he had enjoyed meeting the youngsters, and added: "Things like this, they change you. They make you sort of re-evaluate what's important. You start thinking about what you can do."

His concern for people with autism grew out of his upbringing in New York City.

"One of the boroughs, Staten Island, has a very high autism rate," he said. "Everybody there is connected to someone who has something to do with it."

Hayula Mourad, the centre's head of communications, said the youngsters benefited from such visits.

"Children with autism like routine, they do not like change," she added. "So this is an opportunity for them to break their routine and to introduce them to new faces, new people. With all the excitement, they get to learn to live with such a change in their own environment."

Thal visited the centre after performing at Wednesday night's launch of Point of View's album at the Hard Rock Cafe at Festival City. The centre was one of the partners for the event.

Thal and Uzgare struck up a friendship by email after the singer was among the thousands who flocked to the 2010 Guns N' Roses concert at Yas Island.

Thal encouraged Point of View as the five-piece band worked on their album, praising their music and promising to fly over from the US for the launch. He was as good as his word, and he met Uzgare in person for the first time after landing at Dubai airport on Tuesday with wife Jennifer.

Uzgare said: "He gave a huge push to our confidence level and reinforced our faith that we could produce an international-standard product from Dubai."

He said Thal's support had given a boost to the whole rock scene here, and revealed that Point of View planned to visit the autism centre regularly to play for the children, some of whom take part in music therapy sessions.

Thal adopted his nickname, Bumblefoot, after coming across the word while helping Jennifer to study for her veterinary exams. It is the name of an infection found on the feet of birds of prey.

Though married to someone whose band has sold more than 100 million albums, Jennifer still works as a vet. She said: "I fill in for doctors who are on vacation, I work when I want to work and then I go on tour with Ron, so I have the best of both worlds."

Guns N' Roses are about to start a residency at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas, and after that they will tour India. Thal shared an on-stage secret when he was asked for his best anecdote about legendary frontman Axl Rose.

"When we're taking our solos during the show he takes a break, he goes into a back room and he has a microphone that only we hear," he said. "So as I'm taking the solo and doing my thing, the whole time he's telling me all these corny jokes in my ears.

"I'm trying not to laugh and stay focused and not screw up, and he's telling me these ridiculous jokes."

Mexican rock singer Poc releases debut album 'Rise Above' produced by Guns N' Roses guitarist Ron 'Bumblefoot' Thal

Female rock artist Poc from Mexico City has released her debut album Rise Above, available today at iTunes, Amazon & other digi- stores. The bi-lingual crossover rock artist had her first release this past February, the arena-rock inspired anthem Rock N Roll Baby.

About the recording process, Ron 'Bumblefoot' Thal says ”Poc flew up to to my studio in New Jersey and lived there for two months while we wrote, recorded, and kept a Livestream going to have fans watch, and participate – we had them Skype their backing vocals to us to include in the song Rock N Roll Baby, something I don't think has ever been done on an album. We'd spend hours late at night listening to the past 50 years of rock music, Janis Joplin, Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, getting inspiration. And in the end you can hear that real singer/guitarist team in the songs, that duo of personalities, we captured that."

"I've never experienced so much making an album as I have with Poc. In those two months we had a heat wave, an earthquake, a hurricane, a flood that left 3 feet of water in the studio, and lots of personal challenges to deal with from family tragedies to extortion threats, all this while I was in rehabilitation from a car accident that had left me unable to play and in constant pain. It was one challenge after another. But instead of it stopping us, it added intensity and spirit to the album. That's where the album title came from – every time an obstacle would stand in our way, we'd Rise Above.”

Songs on Rise Above were co-written and produced by Ron 'Bumblefoot' Thal and feature Guns N' Roses bandmate Frank Ferrer on drums. The album features nine songs in Spanish and three in English.

Track List
1. Esta Noche
2. No Quiero Llorar
3. Go To Hell
4. Voy
5. Mienteme
6. No Me Detendras
7. Perfeccion Total
8. Crisis Existencial
9. Un Minuto Mas
10. Ven A Mi
11. Afraid Of the Dark
12. Rock N Roll Baby
